Lead Engineer

We're looking for a Road Load Lead Engineer to join a high-performing Kinetic Energy Management (KEM) team, focused on optimising vehicle efficiency through engineering physics, simulation, and data-driven insights.
This is a fantastic opportunity to influence vehicle performance at system level, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient solutions while maintaining overall vehicle attribute balance.

Rate:- £27.20 ph umbrella
Location:- Gaydon, UK
The Role
Reporting to the Chapter Lead - Kinetic Energy Management, you will take ownership of road load generation, analysis, and certification support across vehicle programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate road load data to support engineering and certification gateways
- Support compliance for global markets (including WLTP / Regulation 154)
- Lead road load analysis activities and oversee coastdown testing
- Develop and manage plans to meet road load certification timelines
- Act as the key point of contact for KEM-related queries across programme and certification teams
- Analyse simulation and test data to identify and drive efficiency improvements
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including:
- Aerodynamics
- Weights
- Performance, Economy & Driveability
- Certification and Programme teams
- Define requirements for prototype vehicles and test facilities
- Support development of tools, processes, and methodologies within KEM
- Represent kinetic energy attributes in cross-functional discussions
Skills & Experience
- Applicants should be educated to Degree level (ideally with a focus on Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering) or Higher Technical Qualification with relevant industrial experience. ·
- Good understanding of vehicle engineering and architectures ·
- Highly numerate with ability to analyse large, complex data sets. ·
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to form cross-departmental relationships. ·
- Good planning and programme management skills
- An individual with the ability to prioritise their workload. ·
Desirable
- Experience with vehicle or component testing
- Knowledge of certification processes and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in:
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
